Health checks
The NHS Health check is a free check-up for adults aged 40 to 74. If you’re eligible, you should be invited by your GP every five years. This check can help identify if you’re at a higher risk of developing certain health problems such as stroke, kidney and heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and dementia.
It is also a good idea to get your blood pressure checked. Blood pressure machines are available at the following locations:
- Your local GP surgery
- Pharmacies
- Horizon Wellbeing Hub, within the Meridian centre (links to local surgeries)
- Borrow a monitor from your local Hampshire library for FREE!
- Alternatively, you can pick up machines to use and home, for as little as £15. This could save a life!
The new ‘Wellbeing Hub’, based within the Meridian Centre, Havant is available to those over the age of 18. They offer a free basic health check, or you can get an advanced check, which includes a glucose and cholesterol check for £15. Full details can be found here
The NHS have set up a 'How are you' online quiz which can bring up recommendations and signpost you to other organisations based on your results. You can calculate your heart age here, the NHS calculator will compare your real age to your heart age by asking you questions about your health. You'll also find out how to improve your heart age by making some healthy lifestyle changes.
